Allen & Overy Banking Cycling Day

Andy Cook Cycling Allen & Overy Corporate Day

Andy Cook Cycling has been delivering corporate events since the company’s inception in 2008. They have worked with the likes of PwC, United Biscuits, the FA, Savills, Lloyds Banking Group and pride themselves on providing high-quality service to their clients, from route-design to event registration and everything in between.

We have delivered the Allen and Overy Banking Cycling Day for the last five years – a corporate Business Development day in the rolling hills of Surrey for the financial lawyers of Allen & Overy and their banking clients. The aim of the day is to get the lawyers and clients out on their bikes in the countryside to encourage bonding, blue-sky thinking and to provide a change of environment and pace to these otherwise office-based business men and women.

This year, the sun shone on all 40 riders as we set off from the beautiful Denbies Wine Estate to ride either a 50-mile or 30-mile route through the stunning roads and scenery around the cycling mecca of Dorking. Denbies Wine Estate has played host to this event for the last two year and is a very special place from which to start the ride. Andy Cook Cycling arrange for secure bike racking at the venue so that the clients have somewhere easy to store their bikes in the knowledge that they will be safe before and after the ride, and we also provide a bike hire service (courtesy of British Bike Hire) so that those without their own bikes can ride top-quality machines set up to each individuals’ specifications in advance of the day.

Both routes are well-signposted by the Andy Cook Cycling Team, and we also provide two pit stops en-route, serving HIGH5 nutrition, water and ‘real’ energy food (often jaffa-cakes, jelly beans and crisps!) There is also a support van with a mechanic for any major breakdowns on the ride, and a number of ride leaders accompany the groups on the ride for support. The design team take down the signs at the back of the ride so that local residents don’t complain – Andy Cook Cycling makes it a top priority to treat all the areas in which they run events with respect and therefore are very hot on taking down all cycling event signs and arrows.

On return from a lovely few hours out on the bikes, all riders were welcomed with a BBQ in a picturesque courtyard and an open bar. Much fun was had by all as friends and colleagues discussed their ride, enjoyed a drink and a burger, before the official ‘A&O Banking Cycling Day Trophy’ was awarded to the person who rode best on the day. This award is often presented to the participant who most impressed the team with their ride, and this year’s winner accepted the trophy and his bottle of champagne with a thank you speech to the whole team behind the ride.

All in all, the event was a huge success and we’re looking forward to 2019 already!
