Women on Wheels – doing it for themselves!

The inaugural Andy Cook Cycling Women on Wheels Cycling Holiday couldn’t have gone better!

The ACC team were proud to get to know 19 amazing women from all over the UK in Mallorca earlier this month, when they joined them for a five day ladies-only cycling camp.

Based at the newly-renovated Club del Sol Resort, just outside Port de Pollenca, this trip was aimed at women of any age and ability, and was designed to ensure all participants achieved their own personal goal – whether that was gaining confidence with riding in a group, getting over a fear of hills (either going up or down!), training for a cycling event or just having a relaxing break with a bunch of like-minded people.

The trip ran over the May Day bank holiday weekend, and all the clients had arrived in time for a warm-up, get-to-know-you ride on the Friday afternoon. Despite some grey skies and the threat of rain, they made it out for a gentle spin down to the Port and back before the storm hit! After a delicious dinner and more chatting, everyone was ready for a good night’s sleep before the first official day of riding on the Saturday. The forecast had promised no more rain, and morning brought blue skies and sunshine. The three groups made their way to Petra, to the famous square surrounded by cafes, the proprietors of which compete with each other to serve the best cake and coffee, have the best bike racking, and be the fastest out with the complimentary orange slices for the thousands of cyclists who venture to this gorgeous town during the season!

55 miles later, and the group of happy and satisfied riders were back relaxing at the bar with a well-deserved glass of beer. Two of the riders celebrated their longest rides ever that day – an absolutely amazing feat!

The next day saw everyone climb the iconic Lluc ascent to the famous garage, and then start the descent to a secluded restaurant for lunch, before the beautiful ride back home. Many more goals were accomplished this day – well done to everyone who climbed the highest they’d ever been, or descended with more confidence than ever before! The day was rounded off perfectly at the Bike Rooms in Port de Pollenca, where the owners put on a special tapas and wine afternoon of shopping for everyone – many purchases were made and much fun was had!

The final official day of riding on the camp on Monday, began with more stunning scenery and beautiful roads, before a short little climb up to the beautiful Puig de Santa Magdalena. On the way back down, a surprise picnic had been laid out just for the Andy Cook Cycling clients and everyone enjoyed a delicious and typically Mallorcan lunch of cheese, ham and bread washed down with fresh orange juice. After a coffee stop at a very smart hotel with beautiful views near Campanet, the ladies ended the day at the Pro’s Hub bike shop – for yet another bit of retail therapy.

A celebratory dinner and Q&A session on the final evening was the perfect way to end a wonderful long weekend – many new friendships were made and so much laughter and fun was had by all. Thank you to all our wonderful clients, most of whom had never been on an Andy Cook Cycling Camp before, for making it such a special trip.
